The FDA White Oak Commissioned Corp Advisory Group's PHS Awareness Day Committee promotes the visibility of the PHS on the White Oak Campus by organizing an annual “PHS Awareness Day."
The 2010 PHS Awareness Day was on May 11, 2010, from 1000-1400. LT Lisa Tung was the chair of the event. The guest speakers were the Commissioner, Dr. Margaret Hamburg and RADM David Rutstein. There were approximately 100 attendees (civilian and active duty) who participated in the event and many PHS officers volunteered to set-up a booth from their respective categories and provide valuable information to the guests. Overall, the event was a big success and a great way to meet fellow officers and as well provide information and resources regarding the Corps to our fellow civilian counterparts.
- National Walk at Lunch Day
Held at HHS headquarters, the fourth National Walk@Lunch Day – co-sponsored by Federal Occupational Health and the BlueCross/BlueShield Association – demonstrated how easy it is to incorporate physical activity into the work day. National Walk@Lunch Day was sponsored nationwide in all 50 states and Puerto Rico in order to promote the benefits of walking. (http://www.foh.dhhs.gov/NWatL/default.asp)

The PHS Races for the Cure planning committee fielded around 43 participants, including Commissioned Corp Officers’ family and friends. The PHS Races for the Cure team completed the Susan G. Komen Global Race for the Cure on June 6, 2009 and raised around $3,251 for breast health care and treatment for underserved women, breast cancer research, and educating communities about breast cancer.

- Healthy Youth for a Healthy Future
Acting Surgeon General RADM Galson, M.D., M.P.H. spoke at the Hugh Browne Educational Campus in support of the Healthy youth for a Healthy Future Initiative during National Physical Fitness and Sports Month. RADM Galson presented a Surgeon General’s Champion Award to the “Lighten Up” Campaign, a partnership between Children’s National Medical Center, Kaiser Foundation Health Plan of the Mid-Atlantic States, Inc., and W*USA 9. Student attendees were lead in physical exercise by Olympic Gold Medal Gymnast Dominique Dawes and "the Bachelor" LT Andy Baldwin, M.D. (USN).

Pairs of DC area PHS officers served in parallel with volunteers from Explorer Post 521 to provide medical support for the 2009 Cherry Blossom Festival. Under the direction of the National Park Service, these teams staffed a first aid tent in the Tidal Basin area.

- Presidential Inauguration
The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) was asked to provide support for various health and medical missions including staffing numerous first aid tents on the Mall, a Federal Medical Station (FMS), a Point of Distribution (POD) and a Casualty Collection Center. Under ASPR, two Rapid Deployment Force (RDF) teams (PHS-1 & PHS-2) were activated by OFRD and a Tiger Team was formed from Tier-3 PHS officers. Members from various Disaster Medical Assistance Teams (DMATs) also participated.
